About the Pet Peace of Mind Program

cornerstone hospice pet peace of mind central floridaFor many in hospice care, changes in their physical condition lead to a decrease of previously enjoyed social opportunities and relationships. However, the human-pet bond can be invaluable for hospice patients on their end-of-life journey as pets offer unconditional love, acceptance, comfort and companionship, as well as a sense of purpose.

Cornerstone Hospice participates in Pet Peace of Mind, a groundbreaking national program which enables hospice patients to keep their pets at home with them throughout their end-of-life journey. In fact, Cornerstone was the first hospice in the state of Florida to implement Pet Peace of Mind.

Caregivers and families are often so busy that pets get less attention. There are also circumstances, such as temporary placement at a hospital or one of our hospice houses, when a place is needed for the pets to stay. Cornerstone’s animal-loving volunteers and financial assistance are provided so patients and families can have the “peace of mind” that their furry (or feathered) family members are being cared for:

  • Basic In-Home Care
  • Dog Walking
  • Pet Waste Clean Up
  • Bathing and Grooming
  • Pet Sitting and Boarding
  • Pet Food and Cat Litter
  • Flea and Tick Treatment, and/or
  • Routine Vaccinations and Medications
  • Assistance with Pet Planning/Advanced Directives

Pet Peace of Mind is not a rescue, however we network with local rescues to help place beloved pets in loving homes and keep them out of shelters.

Volunteers are needed to walk dogs, provide waste clean-up, feed pets, provide transportation to veterinary visits or groomers, and to help educate the community about the importance of having a plan for pets should one be unable to care for them.  Click here for more information.

Not able to volunteer? You can still make a difference with a donation to Cornerstone Hospice – Pet Peace of Mind.
